80 Years of The Phantom : Ghost who Walks, Man who cannot Die

Before Batman, Before Superman there was A Ghost who cannot die, The Ghost who walks : The Phantom. 80 years ago, on February 17th 1936, Lee Falk created The Phantom, published as daily strip. This video is a tribute and introduction to what is arguably the first comicbook hero, the one who set the template for those who followed.

It was The Phantom who is set trend of Superhero wearing mask and skin fit costume. He dwells deep in jungles of the Asia, later African nation of Bangalla (Inspired by Indian State Bangal). The “Ghost Who Walks” has battled pirates and criminals for more than 400 years!

ORIGIN OF THE PHANTOM: In 16th century Christopher Walker was sailing along with his father in the seas of Africa, suddenly they fell prey to pirates’ attack. The pirates blew ship and killed everyone, the only survivor left was young Christopher. He washed up onto the Bangallan Beach.

Where he taken care of local tribes and then he took his father’s skull and swore an oath upon it, “I swear to devote my life to the destruction of piracy, greed, cruelty and injustice! And my sons, and their sons, shall follow me!”

Thus originated the first Phantom and dedicated his life to fighting injustice and cruelty. The violet costume was standardized by this Christopher ‘Kit’ Walker. After he died his sons will became Phantom. This secret only known by local tribes but for rest of the world he was “The Ghost who cannot Die.”

The Phantom published and used in various media like Newspaper Strips by King Features Syndicate, Comic books by Moonstone, DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Egmont. In India Phantom is also popular and published by Indrajaal Comics and Diamond Comics both English and Hindi Language. Latest series published by Dynamite Comics.
